چکیده

Abstract Background Rigid thoracoscopy is the gold standard tool for diagnosing exudative pleural effusion, but sometimes it difficult to obtain sufficient biopsies using conventional forceps. This study evaluated efficacy, safety, and diagnostic value of a modified technique cryoprobe during thoracoscopy. Results single-center prospective in patients that underwent rigid forceps followed by at same setting after injection subpleural mixture adrenaline xylocaine. Biopsies were reviewed an independent pathologist; any complications recorded, all followed-up post-procedure. Twenty-four (12 males; mean age was 56 ± 15.1years) included. The yield both biopsy (RFB) (CPB) 100%. CPB had more surface area than RFB with no difference regarding largest diameter ( p = 0.064). similar results presence fat cells. much less crushed cells better tissue preservation 0.004). No significant reported. Conclusions highly effective safe way obtaining besides affording good quality size especially thick firmly adherent pleura.

Approach to undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion: the diagnostic yield of blind pleural biopsy

Background: Blind percutaneous pleural biopsy has traditionally been performed to investigate the etiology of exudative pleural effusion in which the initial thoracocentesis has been non- diagnostic. In view of the increasing use of image-guided and thoracoscopic pleural biopsies, this study examined the role of blind Abrams pleural biopsy in the investigation of the exudative pleural effusion ...

Diagnostic yield of closed pleural biopsy in exudative pleural effusion.

OBJECTIVE Closed pleural biopsy is known to be diagnostic in approximately 75% of pleural effusion undiagnosed by thoracocentesis or pleural fluid evaluation. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of closed pleural biopsy in a Saudi tertiary care teaching hospital. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the diagnostic utility of all closed pleural biopsies performed from Januar...

Diagnostic yield of pleural biopsy in exudative pleural effusion.

To know the diagnostic role of pleural biopsy in determining underlying etiological causes of exudative pleural effusion. A total of 47 patients, aged 16-104 years with mean age of 47.36 years, of either sex, with exudative pleural effusion underwent closed pleural biopsy with Abram's needle in standard way. Average 4-6 biopsy specimens were obtained from each patient, which were sent for histo...

Yield of Abrams needle pleural biopsy in exudative pleural effusion.

BACKGROUND Pleural effusion is the abnormal collection of fluid in the pleural space resulting from excessive fluid production or decreased absorption and it is one of the most common clinical conditions that we come across in pulmonology clinics and in hospitals. The objective of prospective study was to evaluate the diagnostic role of Abrams Needle Biopsy in Exudative Pleural Effusion. METH...

Investigating causes of undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion by medical Pleuroscopy and close biopsy

Introduction: Pleural effusion may develop during various acute or chronic medical conditions. Despite different diagnostic workups, some cases of pleural effusion may remain undiagnosed. Pleuroscopy and closed biopsy are common diagnostic approaches used for the diagnosis of undiagnosed cases. The present research aimed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of medical pleuroscopy a...
